Can I have some cake with that Bacon?

by Robert

Yummy ness. It’s been a while since we’ve found something Bacon-tastic enough to post. So we were very excited when we uncovered this Bacon Treasure.

The next time you have something to celebrate— a birthday, retirement or maybe a graduation— we recommend you lather that cake in sweet sweet baconey goodness. Yep, that’s right: Bacon Frosting. It’ll give your baked treats the right amount of fat laden Yum.

Oh and if this sounds good, you better act fast. As of publishing time, Amazon only has 6 left — cause Bacon is popular. We bought 12…

Joe Fresh: Intimidating. In A Good Way.

by Alec

Are they dancing? Or just swaying? Neither. They’re taunting. What does that have to do with selling clothing? Lots.

We know plenty of people who are hypnotized by this commercial. It’s the way these young women stare at you, as if to say: “We dare you to ask us out. Totally dare you. Because the answer is definitely no. Or just possibly yes. But you can’t help yourself, can you? We look like we smell terrific.”

In other words, these poised young women possess a rare attribute : emotional self-confidence. It’s something most of us strive for all our lives. And there it is in front of you, wind-blown and outfitted in attractive pastel winter gear.

Will you go steady with me, Joe Fresh?

How Instagram is changing the world of photography

by Rhi

Social media is a great way to share, and has grown to be a (mostly) credible news source in the past few short years. Instagram, a photo-snapping app for  the iPhone, allows you to take photos and add vintage filters to them. The app allows for people to follow other’s photostreams, and publish to platforms like facebook, twitter, and tumblr, among others.

Instagram has spurred a handful of new ways to be creative, and has reminded us of where photography has come from and evolved into. The people from 1000 memories were intrigued by the vintage filters that instagram offered, and dissected them to teach us a little more about where they came from and how in this infographic.

The Vaccines shot their entire music video using instagram. They managed to create a great amount of movement and emotion without needing a video camera.

Instagram also has an official blog on tumblr, which lends itself to the social media front of the program. As you take and publish your pictures, you can use a #hashtag to catagorize it, and they may publish it with a series of photos like they did with the tag #windowseat.

Unfortunately, the only device capable of using instagram at the time is the iPhone, and there is no word about creating the app for other devices. If you are interested in similar apps for your phone, take a look into the Flickr, RetroCamera, FxCamera or our favorite Instagram competitor PicPlz all available on Android devices.

UC Berkeley Scientists Capture Brain Visuals

by Robert

A study published on September 22nd,  by a team of scientists at UC Berkeley, is breaking new ground in exploring how the human mind works. Their experiments have allowed them to retrieve visuals that illustrate their subjects brain activity. Below is a video that showcases their method. On the left the subject views visuals from movie trailers. On the right is a reconstruction of that visual based on the brains activity – recorded and compared to a visual dictionary of over 18,000,000 seconds of random video clips. The videos on the left are not a part of the visual dictionary.

Imagine the applications? Dream re-visualizations. Memory recall. A whole new art form.

Below is a video showing the different image recalls for different subjects. The top left is the original visual.

Check out the team’s site and take a deeper dive into how the team reached their results.

Can you Can?

by Rhi

Design is very often overlooked in daily life – one place in particular is in our drinks. Lately, a lot of soda can designs have been popping up – may they be real, fake, or faux. Here are a few designs to sip on during your lunch break:

Diet Coke Gets a Facelift

This can design was proposed by Turner Duckworth, an agency already familiar with the Coca-Cola brand. The approach is simple – less is more. Our culture has grown up with Coca-Cola products, and the distinct silver can with red and black text on it has become a staple in our everyday lives. Even at this angle, you can still grasp the Coke branding.

Bows for Budweiser

Budweiser gets an actually implemented facelift, earning it’s bow-tie and moving up a rank from the cheap party beers to the sophisticate level. As with Coca-Cola, Budweiser has come a long way from where it’s packaging started, but maintains brand loyalty with its bold red color and crown. The red pop-tab adds a nice touch to the can as well.

And then there’s … is that a can?

Threadless designers submit wacky t-shirt designs for those to wear proudly on their chests for the day, but have you ever seen an approach like this? Designer David Schwen took timeless characters and put them on a can. The minimalist approach takes great shape on these cans. Can you name all the characters shown here? Take a second – no? Here’s a cheat sheet:

From left to right, top to bottom. Bart Simpson, Mario, Pacman, R2D2, Superman, Pokemon, Mickey Mouse, Cookie Monster, and Charlie Brown.

Has anyone seen Prince Albert…?

Share your thoughts with us! Have you seen other cans that have stuck with you?

Refresh, Relax and Get Clean. Yes!

by Robert

Relax-salt_2 Bubble baths were the fun of our youth. The adult version of the bubble bath is a hot bath with stress reducing and body rejuvenating salts. No seriously add salt, sit back and relax. We all need to relax sometimes and what better way to do it than with Hellomellow bath salts. For instance in their relax salt they've infused the magic of himalayan bath salts with sage and white grapefruit – leaving you feeling fresh, detoxified, relaxed and smiling from head-to-toe. Enjoy a little you-time »

E-Z Bake Bus Shelters

by Robert

Bus-shelter-will-keep-commuters-warm__oPt
Kudos to Caribou Coffee and its agency for this wonderful idea to promote Caribou’s hot breakfast sandwiches. These bus shelters not only resemble ovens, but they also include real heaters, which keep commuters warm as they wait for the bus. Yes, we are aware of our own hypocrisy here considering the post below about the calories in fast food. But come on, they put heaters in bus shelters that look like ovens! That’s hot.
